Famous Cities of the World: Stockholm

Stockholm is one of my very favorite cities. I recommend spending some time relaxing and picnicking in Djurgerden. I just love the look and feel of the place, and the way the city appears to be surrounded by bodies of water. Stockholm is an international environment where you meet people from all over the world. It is the hometown of the Nobel Prize and several previous Nobel laureates are found among its inhabitants.

Stockholm is an open, clean and welcoming city where you can walk between the various sights and destinations, enjoying pleasant “bonus” experiences along the way. Stockholm is the seat of the principal learned societies and royal academies. There are schools of painting, sculpture and architecture under the direction of the Royal Academy of Arts; a conservatory of music under that of the Royal Academy of Music; and experimental gardens and laboratories under the Royal Society of Agriculture. Stockholm is also easily accessible by sea and the Port of Stockholm is the principal port for handling freight and passengers to and from Finland, Russia and the Baltic states.

Stockholm is an ambitious community, and one on the move. It is using its new theme, "the Capital of Scandinavia" as a way to demonstrate its vision for the future. Stockholm is also the headquarters of H&M, a popular international clothing retailer. Other top employers include IBM Svenska and Sodexho, a leading provider of food and facilities. Stockholm is also smart and trendy. Only the really large international metropolises are able to compare favourably with Stockholm for their coolness.

Stockholm is a safe, pastel-shaded place of nearly 2 million built around a harbor so clean that you can catch salmon from footbridges downtown. It's also a talent Mecca for key technologies, especially telecommunications, thanks to the presence of phone-equipment giant Ericsson, innovative telecom operators like Tele2, and startups such as Nanoradio, where Ericsson alumni develop chips to turn mobile phones into entertainment centers. Stockholm is home to around 100 of them! From the larger institutes such as the Swedish Museum of Natural History and the National Museum (both must-sees) to the smaller, more specialized organizations like the Museum of the History of Wines and Spirits and the Museum of the Post Office, Stockholm has enough to entertain any seasoned museum-goers. Stockholm is an international city with many interesting museums, sights, shopping and a vibrant nightlife.

Stockholm is an innovative place where new attractions and activities constantly are emerging. This is the heart of Swedish trade and business life. Stockholm is also a modern metropolis with many bars, restaurants and clubs. You can find restaurants with kitchens from all over the world in Stockholm. Stockholm is often nicknamed the “Venice of the North”. This moniker is owed in part to the city’s geographic location on 14 islands scattered over the fresh waters of Lake Melaren.

Stockholm is one of Europe’s most dynamic regions. With continual high growth, world-leading clusters within Life Science and ICT, and as a centre for fashion and design, Stockholm is the natural capital city of Scandinavia. Stockholm is an open, clean and welcoming city where you can walk between the various sights and destinations, enjoying pleasant bonus. If you’re interested in urban trends, Stockholm has two main districts to visit. Stockholm is the most populous city in Sweden with a population of 814,418 in the city, 1.3 million in the urban area and around 2 million in the metropolitan area.
